India vs Australia, Day 4 of 3rd Test Match Delhi

A ban of one match against Gautam Gambhir has been a issue now for the this match. Aussies now in a position to draw the match unless something goes bigger for Indian bowlers. Their is no help from pitch to the bowler so whatever has to be done is by Batsman. If India can manage to all out the Aussie team in the middle or before 2nd session and taking a lead of atleast 125-150, their will be a little hope for all Indian Fans.

Australian team angry......

Australian team is angry that Indian opener Gautam Gambhir was not charged with a more serious offence following his mid-pitchcollision with all-rounder Shane Watson during the opening day of the third Test. Match referee Chris Broad charged Gambhir with a level-two offence of not conducting play "within the spirit of the game as well as within the laws of cricket" after a raised his elbow into the all-rounder's, while taking a run, chest, a reflex the batsman later claimed was an accident. Watson was charged with a level-one offence under the same section of the players' code of conduct for not playing within the spirit of the game, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Kumble sustained the injury when he dived in an attempt to catch Matthew Hayden off Amit Mishra. Test Tendulkar surprised at Ganguly's decision to quit

Sachin Tendulkar has expressed surprise at former captain Saurav Ganguly's decision to quit international cricket after the ongoing home...

Ganguly announced that the four-match Test series this month would be his last following suggestions that the Indian board had drawn up an exit plan for five senior players. A board official said this month that skipper Anil Kumble, Tendulkar, Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman, all well into their 30s, had been told to plan their retirements by December. "I was little bit surprised but you know...the individual knows exactly when to move away from the game and I don't know exactly what's going on in his mind, what he thinks of his future," Tendulkar said of Ganguly's decision. "I am sure it must have taken him a long time to reach that. And it's a big decision. It is a difficult decision. "If he feels that this is the way to go, then we all should respect (that)," he said.
India's ageing batting stalwarts came under intense pressure following a poor series in a 2-1 test defeat in Sri Lanka in August that led to a debate in cricket-mad India about whether it was time for them to make way for the next generation of players. But the senior batsmen found form in the Test series against Australia. Ganguly notched his 16th Test century and completed 7,000 Test runs after Tendulkar eclipsed Brian Lara's world record for most test runs during a spectacular 88 in the second test, which India won by 320 runs to go up 1-0 in the series. Laxman scored a century in the ongoing third test on Thursday to help India take grip of the match after a double hundred by opener Gautam Gambhir. "One is made to believe that this is the right opinion ... (to) know exactly when to move away from the game," Tendulkar added. "We individuals will take that decision when we feel it is the right time."

The opener in Bangalore ended in a draw.

Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh forced to wait to join 300 club

HARBHAJAN Singh will be forced to wait at least one more Test to join the exclusive 300-wicket club after being forced out of the third Test in New Delhi with a toe injury. While Australia's naming of under-performing off-spinner Jason Krejza in its 12 the day before the match proved nothing more than a ruse when he was made 12th man, Harbhajan is clearly troubled by an injured toe on his left foot and must be in doubt for the final Test, beginning in Nagpur next week. The only change to the Australian side from the second Test, which Australia lost by 320 runs in Mohali, was the return of Stuart Clark after an elbow injury, replacing debutant fast bowler Peter Siddle. Harbhajan's absence solved a conundrum for India, which was presented with an embarrassment of spinning riches going into the match. With captain Anil Kumble back from a shoulder injury, India was looking at dropping leg-spinner Amit Mishra despite his spectacular debut as a replacement for Kumble in the second Test. Mishra claimed 5-71 in the first innings and 2-35 in the second. Despite Kumble's injury struggles and his failure to take a wicket in the first Test at Bangalore, his outstanding record in New Delhi was always going to make him an automatic selection if fit. He has 55 wickets in just six Tests at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium at an average of 15 apiece and has won the past two man-of-the-match awards. This has been a major factor in India winning its past seven matches at a ground where it has not lost for 21 years. While India's new-ball pair of Ishant Sharma and Zaheer Khan have done much of the damage, claiming 23 wickets between them in two Tests, mostly with reverse swing, the spinners are likely to play a vital role in this match, with India to bowl last. Harbhajan has been struggling since the last day in Mohali with what coach Gary Kirsten described as an overuse injury. The off-spinner has been limping and did not join in warm-ups before play yesterday, watching as his team-mates went through their paces. With eight wickets in the series, Harbhajan has 299 and is on the verge of becoming just the third Indian to pass 300 wickets, behind Kapil Dev and Kumble. In a bizarre toss, Kumble won it twice. As if he was out of practice after MS Dhoni stood in as captain during the previous Test, the first toss ended up two wickets across and was called back by match referee Chris Broad. Amid much mirth between Broad, Kumble and Ricky Ponting, Kumble had a mock toss which he caught before another landed on the pitch. This time he was officially successful. The fact Australia even included Krejza in its 12 suggested the tourists were worried about the reputation the pitch has for aiding spin. It was always difficult to imagine him playing given the terrible mauling he received in a four-day tour match against an Indian second XI before the first Test. Krejza finished with match figures 0-199 from 31 overs. Even so there was earnest discussion between Ponting, coach Tim Nielsen and tour group leader and selector Merv Hughes before the toss.

To top ICC ODI batsmen ranking.....Dhoni

Dhoni, with 793 rating points to his kitty, is way ahead of Australian Mike Hussey (776) and South African Graeme Smith (764) who are at the second and third position respectively. Dhoni's teammate Sachin Tendulkar is the other Indian in the top 10 list at the eighth spot with 724 rating points. Smith, however, is eyeing second place in batting list as South Africa face Kenya in a two-match ODI series in Bloemfontein on October 31 and in Kimberley on November 2. In the Reliance Mobile ICC Player Rankings for ODI bowlers, Australia's Nathan Bracken heads the list with New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori in second spot and left-arm pacer Mitchell Johnson, another Australian, in third. In the ODI championship table, India is in the fifth spot above Pakistan. India and New Zealand both have 113 points, but the Kiwis are on fourth position after recalculation upto two decimal points.

Chasing a daunting victory target of 516 after the Indians declared their second innings at 314-3, Australia were reeling at 141-5 at stumps on a benign pitch at the PunjabCricket Association. Michael Clarke however defied the Indian attack and was on 42 with six fours at close along with Brad Haddin...

Now India hit back at Australia in Mohali Test..

Sunday, October 19, 2008 MOHALI: Debutant leg-spinner Amit Mishra picked up two key wickets as India pushed Australia into a corner on the second day of the second Test here on Saturday. Mishra, 24, sent back Simon Katich (33) before dismissing Michael Clarke (23) off the penultimate ball of the day to reduce the visitors to a shaky 102-4 on what still seemed a good batting wicket. His efforts with the ball came after Sourav Ganguly hit a century and Mahendra Dhoni an attacking 92 to take India..

AUSTRALIA'S grip on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has slipped in the northern city of Mohali, where their batsmen were comprehensively humbled yesterday by an Indian leg spinner other than Anil Kumble. Bomb Gambhir century puts India in control..

Opening batsman Gautam Gambhir struck a career-best unbeaten 149 to propel India to 296-3 on an ill-tempered first day of the third Test.

Gambhir put on 130 runs with Sachin Tendulkar (68) and also shared 139 runs with Venkatsai Laxman (54 not out) for the unbroken fourth wicket after the hosts were reeling at 27-2 in the morning session. The opener, who bettered his previous-best knock of 139 against Bangladesh, was involved in verbal sparring with the tourists, who must avoid defeat here if they are to keep alive their chances of retaining the Border-Gavaskar trophy.

Perfect 7 hero's for Kumble? part2

However Kumble spun India to famous victories in England, West Indies and Australia over the last four years and proved that he could be dangerous anywhere in the world. It is sort of a cliché now but it was very appropriate for a certain someone to assert that ‘India does not know how to treat its heroes’.

Former India captain Gundappa Vishwanath who belongs to Kumble’s state, Karnataka, voiced his concerns to cricketnirvana.com about great players getting written off and stood up for the Indian captain, saying that he will be back stronger than ever.
“You can never write him off. The biggest problem today is that people who haven’t played or understand the sport are saying that he is not a good captain and bowler. We sitting in India don’t have to make assessments about him, the whole world knows what Anil Kumble is about.,” Vishwanath said.
Former India spinner Maninder Singh feels that Kumble has lost the zip in his bowling and that his bowling has affected his captaincy. However he was quick to assert to cricketnirvana.com that champion cricketers are capable of bouncing back strongly.
Kumble’s record in 2008 tells the story. He has taken just 25 wickets from 9 Tests at an average of 52 runs per wicket. This is the first-ever instance of Kumble playing not taking a five-wicket haul after playing these many Tests in a single year.

Perfect Hero's 7 for Kumble? part 1

Talk about a perfect record - a clean slate. This champion leg-spinner has played at the Feroz Shah Kotla on six occasions, has taken 55 wickets and has bowled his team to victory on all six occasions. He was Man of the Match on three occasions and even took the perfect 10 on this, his favourite ground in the whole world.
He even said on one occasion that he’d love to carry this venue wherever he went across the world. One look at his record and it would most certainly hold true.
It is hard to imagine a bowler dominating proceedings to this extent at one venue. Let us compare Kumble’s performance at Delhi with others who have done exceptionally well at one venue.

Test match team Australia pondering Krejza inclusion

Australian captain Ricky Ponting on Tuesday said Jason Krejza, the offspinner, stood a good chance of making his Test debut on Wednesday.
Krejza, the lone specialist spinner in the Australian team, was ignored for the first and second Tests, after he was torn apart in the tour game leading up to the Bengaluru Test.
Ponting said, "He's definitely in the reckoning, the wicket is a little bit loose on the surface, that would indicate late in the game it will probably loosen up more, so spin is a definite option for us.
“Jason is more of an attacking, aggressive sort of bowler, he does get the ball in the air and put a lot of revs on the ball, spins the ball, gets a lot of overspin on the ball as well, so you'd probably look at him as more of a wicket-taker than a containing type of spinner.”
Ponting said it also helped Krejza's confidence, which took a battering in the tour match, that Bishan Singh Bedi, one of India's legendary spinners, spent time with him at the nets. Ponting said, "I'm not sure how it came around that (Bedi) was there... speaking to Jason, Bishen's been helpful and he's also had some good things to say about Jason which has probably been good for him.

Final result is Australia expect weather to play in third Test

The Australians, who are currently trailing 0-1 in the four Test series, are expecting weather to play a part in the third Test at Delhi, which starts on Wednesday.
While Delhi normally sees extreme weather and heavy fog, the festival of lights - Diwali - and all the smoke from the fireworks, are expected to make the smog more intense.

India vs Australia, Day 1 of 3rd Test New Delhi

Australians are under pressure in both on field and off field performance. Indians hitted them out in the mohali test just like a wash out and in the same Indians were champion in the verbal talks as Zaheer and Dhoni cleared told that this side of Australian is the most defensive one. The verbal voice converted to truth when the stats are matched. Indians will be looking to win the series while Australians will try to have a hope in the series. The players which will be key to watch are Sehwag, Sachin, Zaheer, Ishant, Ricky, Hayden and Clarke.

http://cricketfever.org/2008/10/17/india-vs-australia-2nd-test-live-cricket-from-mohali..

Today the 2nd Test from the Airtel Border Gavaskar Trophy 2008-09 begins at the PCA Stadium in Mohali.

Both the teams - India & Australia settled for a draw in the 1st test at Bangalore with India’s Fab 4 Batsmen namely V.V.S Laxman & Sachin Tendulkar saving the 1st Test & leading it to a draw amist a low quality Aussie Spin Attack of Michael Clarke & Cameron White & fading light.

Now the action shifts to Mohali for the 2nd Test Match of the Airtel Border Gavaskar Trophy 2008-09 between India vs Australia.

Speculations are ripe about the Fitness of the Indian Skipper Anil Kumble and whether he will play the 2nd Test or Not.

Australia on the other hand have got a blow with Stuart Clark being declared unfit for this Test Match which means by all means Peter Siddle will make his debut in this 2nd Test Match.

The Pitch, despite the early morning showers in Mohali since the last few days was bright and sunny and according to the Curator - Daljit Singh the pitch appeared dry with grass cover in the middle separating two bare ends. It is expected to be a good batting track after the initial moisture vanishes.

Teams

India: 1 Gautam Gambhir, 2 Virender Sehwag, 3 Rahul Dravid, 4 Sachin Tendulkar, 5 Sourav Ganguly, 6 VVS Laxman, 7 Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt & wk), 8 Amit Mishra, 9 Harbhajan Singh, 10 Zaheer Khan, 11 Ishant Sharma.

Australia: 1 Matthew Hayden, 2 Simon Katich, 3 Ricky Ponting (capt), 4 Michael Clarke, 5 Michael Hussey, 6 Shane Watson, 7 Brad Haddin (wk), 8 Cameron White, 9 Brett Lee, 10 Mitchell Johnson, 11 Peter Siddle.

Now the landmark which the Entire Cricket World will watch - Will Sachin Tendulkar score the 15 runs he needs to become Test cricket’s leading run-scorer?
